Questions regarding contact sessions
When will lectures commence?
Lectures will run from 28 November 2016 to 8 December 2016.
In which cities will lectures be held?
Lectures will be held in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, East London and Port Elizabeth.

Are lectures compulsory?
Lectures are not compulsory; you can review recordings of the lectures online via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
What if I can’t attend lectures?
Lectures in Cape Town will be recorded and will be available online via our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Recordings of lectures will be available from mid-December 2016.
If I can’t attend lectures in the City can I attend lectures in another city?
You will be allowed to attend lectures in another city – however, you are required to contact the UCT Board Course office to obtain permission and to get the updated information regarding that specific city’s lectures.
Who will be lecturing?
All lecturers are full time Academics of the UCT College of Accounting. All who have been involved in, and teaching on the UCT PGDA course for a number of years.
Questions reagrding course material and the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
What course material will I receive?
Course material consists of a suggested study day programme, course notes and a bank of tutorial questions.
When will I receive the course material?
Course material will be available at the first lecture in each city.
What if I cannot attend the lectures on the first day?
You should contact the UCT Board Course office to obtain information regarding alternative course material collection.
What is the VLE or the Virtual Learning Environment?
The virtual learning environment (VLE) is an interactive online learning site accessible to you for the duration of the course.
How do I access the VLE?
You will automatically receive your login details to the VLE via email by the 25 November 2016. You should ensure that you register using a current email address. If any subsequent changes to your registration needs to be made you should contact UCT Board Course on
firstname.lastname@example.org to effect changes.
By when will I be able to access the VLE?
Access to the VLE will be granted by 25 November 2016, provided that your course fees are paid.
What will I be able to access on the VLE?
The VLE will contain the following:
- Lecture recordings (available from 15 December 2016)
- Recordings of tutorial sessions
- Additional video resources
- Academic updates issued by the course lecturers
- Assessment questions
- Discussion forum
Will I be able to contact lecturers?
Lecturers will be available on email, via a dedicated discussion forum on the VLE and on their cell phones.
Are the mock examinations (simulated ITC examinations) compulsory and how do I get a copy of the exam and solution?
These are for your benefit as preparation for the ITC. It is therefore in your best interest to attempt them. The mock examination (simulated ITC) will be loaded to the VLE in January 2017. You will receive an email notification once the examination is available. You are expected to write the examinations on the specified days and self mark them against the solutions provided on the VLE.
Are there venues for the mock exams?
No. These are self-study and self-evaluated examinations and you will thus write the examinations in your own time and mark them yourself. A feedback session video will be available on the VLE in January 2017 on the mock examinations.
Questions regarding cancellations
Can I cancel my registration?
Yes, you will be able to cancel your registration at any time before the course starts or before you have collected the study material.
What must I do to cancel my registration?
You must advise us in writing (via email) that you no longer wish to continue with the course.
Are there any costs involved if I cancel my registration?
In the case that you did not pass honours, did not attend lectures nor collect study material = 100% refund.
In the case that you did not pass honours, but attended lectures/collected study material/logged onto VLE = 75% refund
Collected study material/attended lectures/logged onto VLE, passed honours but could not write ITC exam due to unforeseen circumstances = 50% refund (this will be considered on a case by case basis – please contact your course co-ordinator in this regard)
What if I am unsuccessful in my PGDA/CTA/HDipAcc in 2014?
You must advise us in writing (via email) that you no longer wish to continue with the course in writing.
The normal cancellation rules will be applicable.

Registrations for the ITC exam will open via the SAICA website on 5 October 2016.
